Florida’s housing market is flashing serious warning signs. I’m finding empty new-build homes, rising inventory, and sellers taking six-figure losses — yet builders are still putting up even more houses. In Cape Coral, home values are down more than 15% from four years ago, while some listings are showing losses approaching $150,000.

Statewide, Florida home values are down roughly 7% over the last two years, inventory has climbed above 150,000 homes, and Florida now leads the U.S. in foreclosures. The question is whether this housing downturn has another leg lower in the second half of 2026 and into 2027 — or whether falling prices are finally creating opportunities for homebuyers and real estate investors.

In this video, I’m on the ground looking at what’s happening with Florida new construction, home prices, housing inventory, foreclosures, and builder activity. The weakness is particularly noticeable across western and central Florida, including Cape Coral, Sarasota, Tampa, Lakeland, and Davenport.
